Yamaha C3 with 1996 pianodisc??
on: January 03, 2015, 02:40:29 AM
Hi all.  I'm trying to help my Father in law and his wife find a good piano to host musical events in their home.  She plays drums and enjoys jazz and and they both enjoy live music.  Neither plays piano much but several relatives do.  They are wanting a player system with a record option capable of producing decent music of various styles, especially classical, as well as just having a good piano capable of satisfying good live musicians.  Top of the budget is 10K.  Tall order, I think.

Saw a 1985 C3 today which was in surprisingly good condition as far as I could tell.  It has a 1996 pianodisc system installed aftermarket (invoice for purchase and install in 2000 was $6800)... it seemed to reproduce music reasonably well and did not include the necessary equipment for recording.  Plus, it works off of floppy disks.  Lol.  I had to reach back in my memory to even remember how to deal with those things.

Person's asking 14K for it, as is.  There were a few issues that I'd want a technician to check out and some basic maintenance... voicing and such, but overall the piano was a pleasure to play, which I can't and don't say often about many well-used pianos.

Thoughts, advice - esp. on the upgrading of the pianodisc system and the possibilities there?

Thanks!

Hi. In my humble opinion, 14000 (dollars, euros or pounds?) for a 30 years old Yamaha C3 seems a little excessive for me. I've seen newer Kawai RX3 and Yamaha C3 for between 7000-1000 euros. Also I've seen new Pianodics systems for around 2000 euros.

I'm not a very experienced piano buyer, but I'm in the market.  Not sure if you already found something, but just for your comparison my local has a 1976 Yamaha C3 listed for $9950 and they do pianodisc with install for an additional $5000.  Your the piano you are looking at is 10 years newer and $1k less expensive (I'm not sure the lifespan of a player piano feature).
