What kind of piano makes *this* sound??
on: January 10, 2015, 11:37:54 PM
Okay, this is Cziffra on Chopin's B flat minor prelude (sorry, had an obsession with it!)
But something always makes me LOVE this performance- the bottom B flat at 1:00
But this sounds FAR too deep to be true. Does he maybe play an octave here, or just have an insanely amazing bass in his piano?
What piano could produce this?

You could try a Yamaha like this
or a Stuart & Sons
among others.

Yeah, it's the bottom Bb octave.

Oh okay, so he does go a bit unorthodox on the score. I had a feeling that's what it was but ignored it. Thanks!

(even still, that is one hell of a bass)

I'd see it as more of a registration choice then being unorthodox.  There are other places too which sound like he is filling in chords.  If done tastefully, it can be used to shape the sound.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
