Keyboards/Synths for Pop
on: February 21, 2015, 12:22:24 PM
I don't know if this is the appropriate forum for this topic, but I wanted to see if anyone here had any experience playing pop gigs and what kind of keyboards, synths, or synth modules you used.
I was hired for this gig thinking I could eek by on a Roland RD700-GX, but it turns out this band is really keen on getting as close to the original sound as possible, and the RD soundbank just doesn't cover it. Does anyone know of any affordable gear that comes equipped with modern pop synth sounds? We cover stuff like Rhianna, Beyonce, that kind of top 40's stuff.
And yes, before you ask, I HAVE felt the overwhelming urge to pour molten lead in the barren chasm where my soul used to reside. The operating system that replaced my humanity, though, DOES come with built in Wi-Fi!

I use a double stand with a Yamaha CP1 on the bottom topped with an Alesis Micron synth which sounds awesome thru my Leslie 3300 cabinet. Also a homemade cabinet with six 15" woffers and mid tweeters...

FYI I just added a Hammond SK2 to my setup. I use it on the "Vintage strings" setting.
The emulation of a mellotron is amazing. I run it through my Leslie 3300.
Awsome sound...
