Ravel's Jeux d'Eau or Prokofiev's 3rd piano sonata
on: March 01, 2015, 09:17:06 PM
Which one should I learn first? I am finishing up my set of 8 or so pieces, and want to begin a new one. If you have played them give me some feedback. Thanks

What are the pieces you just finished??

It really depends on what repertoire you've learned, and your goals.  Can you elaborate on this please?

Just start both. Learn them concurrently.  If you decide you actually don't like one of them . Put it away fr a while and come back around to it in the future

It really depends on what repertoire you've learned, and your goals.  Can you elaborate on this please?

Chopin 25 12
Mendel 1 concerto 1movement
Bach WTC2 cminor
Tchaikovsky op5 romance
Moonlight sonata complete
arensky op74 n2 etude

And I also began Chopin ballade 1

My goals are to pile on a lot of repertoire as I am a late starter, so I am in a panicky mode of acquiring all this to audition somewhere, and use it for competitions sake.

Both are at around the same level ... I think, as visitor suggested, learn both at the same time, and see what you like better.  Both pieces will develop aspects in your playing not yet covered by your existing repertoire.

I thought so too. And that's very good to hear. Thank you for suggestion. Ill probably will learn Ravel before the sonata. I am also going to pair it up with Bach WTC 1 D major, Chopin 25 11 and continue the Ballade.
