Greetings, and a query
on: December 09, 2004, 04:59:34 AM
 Hi eveyrone-
I'm new here- my name is Chris, and I took lessons for about 18 months. My problems are sight reading, and "gripping" the keys (not using my whole body and arms to play the piano.)

I'm sick of writing in the notes before I can play something, and sick of my wrists hurting from bad technique.

Can anyone help with these problems? I would be so indebted. Any general suggestions would help, too. My email is ty4191@msn.com.

                                                    Thanks so much,
                                                                 Chris

Um, stop writing in the notes?   Seriously, you're making yourself use a crutch.  If you just read the music, no matter how slowly, then gradually, you'll begin to "get" the notes faster and faster.  Yes, it's difficult at first, but so was learning to ride a bike.  You fall a lot, you scrape a knee or two, but eventually you can ride on two wheels, er read one note after the other. ;)

As for the rest of your complaints, how 'bout a good teacher?

Welcome Chris!

18 months of lessons and you are writing in the notes and have pain in your wrist because you have not yet learned any proper technique? Who was your teacher?? Stay far far away from this man or woman if you choose to go back to lessons!
