Does this NEW piano need VOICING??

Hello everyone,
Happy to have joined these wonderful forums.

Is it normal to have a new piano with cuts on the hammer felts (2 photos attached)???!!!
Are these the cuts normal (due to felt-string contact)??? Or is voicing necessary? If yes, which is better: to file the felts or swipe some hardening liquid on them?

It's a new Yamaha U1 piano!!

Similar to when you purchase a new car the vehicle will always have a few miles on the odometer because it has to be test driven a bit once delivered to the dealership.

It is the same with new pianos. In the factory there is what is called a piano pounder. There used to be when I worked in a factory setting anyways.

 You can find them on Youtube. This is a machine that plays all of the keys over and over repeatedly for a day or more so some of the mechanical failures can be dealt with if there are any.

So your piano has a few hours of play on it. The photos show normal wear for new hammer sets.

Don’t worry too much at this point; just play lots and be happy. There is plenty of time to save up money to spend on your hammer set at a later date when the lines become more significant.
 
Depending upon the rate of use will determine the timeline for regulation and voicing procedures.

I feel that that pounder was agonizing the piano! I can't stand watching it!!!! I know that it might be a good thing .... but....
