Liszt B minor alternate ending
on: March 26, 2015, 07:16:04 AM
Hi all,

Does anyone know where I might be able to find the alternative presto ending to the Liszt B minor? I know it was taken out after the manuscript was published, but I would be grateful if anyone could direct me to the original.

Thanks!

Hi,

do you mean the crossed out parts from the manuscript, which we can see on WP?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonata_in_B_minor_%28Liszt%29

The manuscript should be on IMSLP. Problem could perhaps be, to read the notes in spite of the crosses.

Henle is preparing this one:

https://www.henle.de/en/detail/index.html?Title=Klaviersonate+h-moll_3227

Perhaps they are going to make previously unreadable parts readable again? But exactly one cannot tell what they do until the edition appears. It'll be E 119,- .

Whether there are / will be other resources to find a well readable version or not, including the previously crossed out (or / and  modified) parts, I don't know. Maybe other forum-members can help here with info,

or maybe some private person from the web has managed via photoshop and then musical notation program etc. to make up such a version?

Cordially, 8_octaves!

Of the various mss I've come across (and sometimes tried to play from) this one looks eminently readable, crossings out notwithstanding. Much better than most.

The orignal (crossed-out) ending is typeset in the Dover book in the explanatory notes.
