Chopin Etude Goal
on: March 27, 2015, 09:43:56 PM
Hi guys,
I've been hoping to learn one of chopin's etudes for a while now. But I'm not quite good enough yet. I was wondering what pieces you would recommend to learn to get there?
I have played a lot of Chopin's nocturnes, including most of the harder ones, 3-4 of his waltz, couple of his preludes.
That's been my study for the past year or so, I've been playing Chopin's Ballade (no.1) and liszt 2nd Hungarian Raphsody but I'm not really good enough to play them, just messing around a bit with them, having a bit of fun lol.
What would be the best sort of pieces to learn in the hopes of being able to learn some of his etudes? Some of Chopin's impromptus? Or perhaps some of Liszt's pieces?

Try his polonaises. If you're just starting them, the Op 40 set are good ones to play.
Also, some of the etudes aren't that hard technically (musically is a different story)- 10/3 and 10/6 among them.

Study more of the Preludes, try to venture into the less commonly played ones. The Nouvelles études may also be of interest.
Look through the Op 10 or 25, there may be ones which are already appropriate for your level. You don't need to start with 25/11 in order to play the Etudes.
Have a look at the Moszkowski Etudes Op 72.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
