Tchaikovsky - Album for the Youth Op.39
on: April 05, 2015, 09:30:13 PM
Those (if any) who enjoyed Tchaikovsky's The Seasons may also enjoy the Album for the Youth.
I love this set and tried hard to give each of these little pieces their musical due. A lot of time was spent (perhaps as much as on the actual recording) to find beautiful and relevant images for the video. This was no great hardship though, as I was bowled over by the vast riches of Russian painting (most of the images are by Russian painters). The quality and beauty is breathtaking, rivaling that of any more famous painting schools. The rather grim image I chose for
the Doll's Funeral just breaks my heart - the desperate mother and resigned father are immensely
touching. This had to be as I could not find a painting of a Doll's Funeral.
I believe the video is worth watching for the pictures only. Hopefully the performance can be enjoyed too.
