Dear friends!

V Piano Bridges International Competition for Amateur Pianists will be held in St. Petersburg, Russia from June 29 to July 4, 2015.

We welcome amateur pianists aged 17 and above from all countries, people of various occupations for whom piano playing is a serious hobby, but not a professional activity.

Professional pianists as well as piano teachers and students of professional music colleges and conservatories (piano specialization) are not allowed to take part in the competition.


The competition is held in two categories:

1st category - amateur pianists who received a diploma of secondary or higher musical education but haven't been involved in music activities as professional pianists for at least 3 years.

2nd category - amateur pianists with no professional piano education.

With the approval of the organizing committee, contestants from the 2nd category can be allowed to compete in the 1st category, but not vice versa.

The programme: the contestants are free to choose their own programme which must include a classical piano repetoire.

The competition is conducted in two disciplines:

Piano Solo - 2 rounds
Piano Duo (for four hands and one piano) - 1 round (all categories).

Applications are accepted until May 30, 2015.

The Piano Bridges Competition was founded in July 2011, in keeping with the best traditions in Europe and around the world. Over the four years of its existence, it has welcomed participants from 27 countries. And it’s the only competition in Russia that has no upper age limit for its contestants.

I wonder if a hack opera pianist is considered amateur....
