Good encore piece
on: April 08, 2015, 04:52:41 PM
Hi all! :)

I've got a piano recital in a couple of months and in search of a reasonable length encore piece for the end of it. I'm playing in it Rach g minor prelude, moonlight sonata, fazil says paginni jazz, chopins ballade in A flat as well as some of my own compositions/arrangements of jazz standards.

Thank you!
Pieces I'm polishing at the mo:
Debussy reflections on the water (images)
Chopin ballade no.3 op.47
Liszt/Wagner Isolde liebestod

(Before people kill me for posting LL, I actually think he didn't play so bad in this recording. I'm new to the Schumann SFC, so I'm listening to tons of different recordings)

They're all great suggestions, I've learnt the schumann already  :). I was thinking something more a show-off piece perhaps? Or would that not work with the programme I've got.

Since you're already playing your own arrangements of jazz standards, it would seem appropriate to do one of those as an encore.

Or you could do Art Tatum's version of "Tea for Two":

I prefer to keep encores simple and or in the realm of I usual and unexpected

How about
If you stick to traditional ie an étude

Or off the beaten path and I feel sill retains that showy encore feel

Or blow their minds w this :)
