Jesus Maria Sanmora - piano works
on: April 17, 2015, 01:06:53 PM
I have always taken a keen interest in the 'pianist compoers' of the  golden age of piano, ie Levitzky and company (through about mid 20th century) amazing pianist, and a nice blend of nationalistic ideas/identity w/ romantic sentimentality.

bio here:
https://www.naxos.com/person/Jesus_Maria_Sanroma/44175.htm
"...Sanromá was an exceptionally fine pianist who did not have a headlining career, yet worked with some of the world’s finest musicians. His playing was acutely musical and refined..."

he composed some, here is an example of a Danza and I hear some influences of Gottschalk in some of what he does (one of which I am looking for and requesting)
(interpreted here by pianist . L.A. Ferre)

any ideas or leads on any of his works as published, manuscript form or transcribed (even amateur versions if well done?)?

Is that Sanroma composing or Sanroma playing?

My limited Spanish suggests its Danza Puertorriqueñacomposed by Simon Madera.

I suspect the performer took some liberties with the original version.

MANY MANY KINDEST AND WARMEST THANKS!!!
Luis A Ferre, was known to 'expand' on a lot of the musical ideas he came across. Not my favorite performer. But gives a nice idea of the work's sound.

Sanmora composed per Jim F, Ferre performing.

Love me some Danzas, i'm on a sort of danza kick as of late (i tend to float to that end of the pool about every 18 months or so....) 8)

Kindest regards again, can't wait to learn it. If/when i record, I shall seek a chance to post a correct to score version. :D

Hi visitor  :)

for the sheetmusic, I couldn't compete: The others were so quick!  :'( :)

But I spotted such influences, too, in the nice video! ( Especially: "Souvenirs de La Havane", "Le Mancenillier", and "O ma Charmante,..." could be candidates to compare, I think. )

I found out, that Sanroma has EITHER a ) arranged this one:

Pers.Main Entry       Hindemith, Paul
Title       Concerto, piano, arranged.
Imprint      Mainz : Schott, 1948.
Descr.      59 p.
Gen. note      Arranged for 2 pianos, 4 hands
Top.Subj. - Misc.      Concertos (Piano)
Add.Entry       Sanroma, Jesus Maria arranger

( e.g. in a Jerusalem library, by which this entry is stated, )

OR b )  Hindemith had DEDICATED the work to Sanroma, which is stated by the 2 versions' entries in the Austrian National library, ( the old one, and a 1974 reprint ).

Then, by struggling through the web as I do often, I found these snippets, too, but it's only info-stuff:

btw, I came across this little page, which might not be too interesting, I think, if someone should be interested in foreign dances, sheets, etc. What do you think of it?

 ;) ;) Cordially, 8_octaves!!

The artist listens for that which is well done,
the person who knows nothing listens for the faults." (T. Carreño, quoting her 2nd teacher, Gottschalk.)

There is an interesting recording of Jesus Maria Sanroma playing Liszt's Totentanz:
