Can't decide between two great pieces
on: April 20, 2015, 07:55:28 AM
I need to choose one from these two great works which I really love, to start working with my teacher next schoolyear in addition to a Rach etude and Gershwin's blue rhapsody...

I can't choose between Bach-Busoni Chaconne in D minor, or Franck Prelude, Chorale et Fugue.

I love the haunting chorale, the transition climax from the chorale to the fugue, and the great, triumphant finale.

But I can't get past the inventiveness and the excitement of the Chaconne...

So I have to ask you... which one do you prefer? I'm really stuck here.

Both are great .  Just learn both. If you show up to your lesson w both of them solidly learned you teacher may let you kept them In The rotation.  If after several months one of them is considerably further along , then the music has made  the decision for you.  If you end up not liking one all that much more, then again It sorted itself out.  If you're equally along w both and teacher still has you choose let teacher just pick the one they would like to teach more and finish the other At same time on your own.  Even if you end up needing to drop one , it is not like it's forever,  and I have yet to find an instance where I am less of a pianist or worse off for having tried or spent some time w a piece of music that I did not finish ....except for Schumann.  Bobby's stuff can be detrimental in most cases  :)

Just wait, mate. Bobby may yet reveal his merits to you.
