great and undervalued piano solo repertoire #9

Alexei Stanchinsky's Nocturne (1907), here played by Robert Henry.

In particular, please listen through the mosso ed agitato section which begins at about 2:26 in the recording!

Given that th4e list of "great and undervalued" repertoire extends to tens of thousands of pieces, I suggest you combine these in one thread. Particularly since your idea of obscure is, shall we say, rather broad.

I might also point out that a few of the performances you posted are by other forum members.

Hi j_menz,

No need to worry - I am not going to flood the forum with "great and undervalued" repertoire threads.  Those nine were a spontaneous stream of thought occurrence, one after the other.  And the point is well taken, that when in quantity, utility and function can be maximized by placing all repertoire items into a single thread.

I am aware of some members and their recordings.  It seems inappropriate to disclose Piano Street username to real world connections.  But as everything linked was so well played, maybe these members will wish to come forward and announce themselves!

p.s. - Sergey Lyapunov is one of the performers represented who is not a member of Piano Street.

Mvh,
Michael

I'm quite curious. Obviously I'm aware that #6 is me. The Liapunov etude posted is on my YouTube channel, but, while I have played that particular etude in recital many years ago, the recording posted is a piano roll of the composer himself. This recording (#9), which I rather enjoyed, is I believe by a former forum member, but I wasn't aware there were any others.

Hi ronde_des_sylphes,

Maybe there is a recording of you playing that Lyapunov Etude?

I am man of my word - if you send it to me, none other than me, unless I am invaded by one or more criminals, will hear it or access it, or even learn of its existence.

I even have a desktop computer (and a very powerful one, too, I might add, with among other things eight 4.33 ghz cores) which is air gapped and not hardware equipped to go online, and it runs on a Linux O.S.

This laptop right here is just a flimsy toy!

p.s. - Us chess freaks and our computer systems ;D.  You wouldn't believe the systems some chess players out there have, you really would not believe it . . . imagine Stockfish DD running on 128 cores . . .

p.p.s. - I have checked and confirmed that Sergey Lyapunov is not a Piano Street member.

Mvh,
Michael

p.p.p.s. - For really secure data storage one can rent vault space under the Zurich airport, and elsewhere there are digital-object-only equivalents of that security of storage, for the data on servers which are embedded in various Nordic mountains.

I'll do better than that. I'll post it, and no.5 of the same etudes, in the appropriate thread!

That thread was only for one pianist and one composition, the last time I checked. ;)

But you are welcome to do this, regardless! ;D

Just don't agitate Mr. Lyapunov in case my information is incorrect, and he happens to be a member here. ;D ;D

I must admit, the situation here is quite comical . . . ("What was the number of the Lyapunov thread again?" . . . LOL).

When even I can't find the threads I am looking for, and I am the one who posted them, maybe there really is an issue here  ;D . . . LOL
