Woud appreciate feedback on Bach-Invention No.1
on: May 07, 2015, 03:05:20 AM
It has been awhile since I could practice like before, engineering taking much of my time this past months and all that real life-stuff happening, so I thought I would open this new season of hard practice with a piece I started to study around last month.

Any criticism would be highly appreciated, even things like "Curse you, and your non harmonious playing", so long the problem is highlighted so I can try to correct it.

Regards,

Me.

P.D: Sorry for the quality of the audio in some parts, I am yet to find a perfect way to record.

Hi senanserat! Good job playing this piece. I didn't really listen to it that closely, but my first impression was to practice those right hand trills. You're currently doing 4-3-4 or 3-2-3 but if you could, it would be ideal to play 4-3-4-3——4  or 3-2-3-2——3. If you can play them really rightly and evenly it will tie the piece together and make the whole thing sound better. Great job!

Yeah I don't have much confidence in long thrills but I could try practicing them slowly to make them double. By 4-3-4-3--4 do you mean holding that last 3 a bit longer?

Thanks a lot for the comment!

I personally think it's always better to simplify (reduce notes to slow down) in baroque trills than to play them clumsily and out of meter. You can always add more notes when your skills develope.

I would first just practice fitting a short trill in the time allotted, minding the pulse and giving the main note all the attention it deserves.

That would be my approach, yes. Right now I will focus on working what I already got.

Hi senanserat,

It is none of my business, I am curious though [and I can say why by private message] if you are a mechanical or an electrical P.E.?

About the playing here, I think you are off to a great start.  I would suggest, if possible, to work toward making it more cantabile as J.S. Bach suggested with phrases entering and departing in such a manner.  That is only a suggestion - you might prefer it more robustamente, et c.

Are you going to go through the others in the set eventually, or just the first one for now?

Mvh,
Michael

I am studying software engineering, I have basic training in hardware but my first and the whole backbone of the career is development in OOP languages (Object Oriented Programming) and staying true to the good practiques of coding.

Perhaps when I find a suitable export option I'll post something in the Anything forum to give a peek of what I've been up to.

As for your suggestion I'll take to heart, I would prefer a more canticle style with more marked beginning and ending of phrases. As for the last part I'll slowly work my way through all the Inventions then the Sinfonias in an effort to further my comprehension and skills at playing.

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

Best Wishes
Me

Well pal that's why I said to PRACTICE those right hand trills, didn't I? I'm only suggesting adding one more turn in his trills because that is the standard way to play the trills in this piece and I personally think it sounds much better that way than to only play 3 note "trills".

And senanserat, I was not necessarily suggesting holding the last note of the trill longer, I just was suggesting adding another turn. You are doing an excellent job with this piece. Keep playing, recording, and posting!

Thanks a lot, I have lessons tomorrow so perhaps I will be able to record a better rendition.
