For those of us who spend our lives on the bench — whether teaching, practicing for a recital, or simply playing for the love of it – the piano has always been a singular concept: wood, felt, strings, and soul. Hello everyone,

Please advise; I think of buying a climate control system to install in my upright piano. I considered Damp-Chaser Piano Life Saver but I just put off that idea for 2 reasons: a. it's really expensive... b. it's not clear if it can control temperature or just humidity (a salesperson says it can do both... but the manual has nothing to say about it).

Also I would love to get the best on-budget control system that can control both humidity and temperature.

The climate here is in general dry and very hot; however, it can get very cold in December, and very wet in August.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I bought the heaters and humidity detector for ~$100 to fit my baby grand and installed it myself.  I don't have a humidifier attached to it because humidity rarely drops below 40%.  You can find an online piano parts store and buy the necessary parts.  The brand of heaters was Moisture King.

Thank you.

The detectors seem nice and reliable but what about the climate (humidity and temperature) control device?

Moisture King has the humidity controller.  There are two plugs that go into it: 1) for dehumidifier (heaters), and 2) for humidifier.  For a humidifier, you'll need to purchase a separate humidifier and simply plug it into the controller.  I guess you place it underneath the piano and refill with distilled water when it's running low.  The controller allows you to adjust the relative humidity.  There is no temperature controller since temperature is separate from humidity.

Thank you. Now I understand it. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything about a humidifier in Moisture King website. There is only a dehumidifier.

Would you please give me a link?

Moisture King does not sell humidifiers.  You'll need to buy one separately.  Almost any humidifier will work.  Just plug it into the humidity controller.
