Short exciting piece for DipABRSM

Hey

So I recently started practicing for my ABRSM Diploma and I have been playing for about 4 and a half years. My chosen pieces from the syllabus are Brahms' G minor Rhapsody, Beethoven's E minor sonata op 90, and the Ravel Sonatine.

I have a about 2 minutes spare of the required time so i thought i'd make that my own chosen piece, so i  wanted a short modern piece to contrast those other bits of relatively standard rep  . I thought of khrennikov's march but i'd really like a few suggestions that i could chose from.

Poulenc's toccata was another idea but i thought it was far too similar to the sonatine. ANY suggestions welcome!

brilliant! a name i'd never heard before either.... even if i don't use it for my diploma i'm going to learn that first one!

You are supposed to play a balanced programme, and in my opinion, it would be better if you play a short Scarlatti sonata instead.

I'm not playing repeats in any of my pieces, you don't have to

Long repeats - definitely no.

Short repeats - depended on whether you can play the passage out (slightly) differently.  do not repeat for the sake of meeting the requirement of min. playing time.

Exciting stuff indeed, the Slavenski pieces. I did not know this composer. Yoko Nishii is a most impressive and forceful pianist - I hadn't heard of her either. Thanks visitor for the links !

IMO the musical content of these pieces is not in proportion to their massive bravado. But I guess you can say that about many virtuoso display pieces.

glad the Josip suggy was well received. Not able to post a score as it's in print, but fairly easily bought, Schott knows a thing or two, scores are consistently on the higher end quality wise
