Hey guys,

here is a peace of recording of my liszt sonata's interpratation

Don't have any big expectations, actually I am not a pianist, I am a programmer :D

I would really appreciate if you can give me any kind of feedback.

Hi xownage3x,

That is pretty good for a computer programmer. ;)

I think that maybe you do have some expectations, though I am not sure what these are.  What I do know is that when I was near to your age I made a living in the I.T. industry for a number of years, and I think that perhaps as well you, too, would rather be doing other things.

It needs a plan, though, and a lot of hard work.

Mvh,
Michael

Hi Michael,

thanks for the positive feedback!

Well, coming from a very piano-related family I know it is not a good interpretation at all, especially if you analyse my musicality. The expectations I assume many pianists have is the correct use of dynamics, speed and stuff like that. But for me, it is not understandable how to deliver these expectations since it is very irrational / driven by feelings. As a programmer I like to hit these keys and do the systematic approach.

But yes, being young you dont really practice that much because there are too many interesting things beyond piano :b

Looking forward to hear some more feedback!

Hi xownage3x,

This can happen at my age, too! ;D

For someone who don't practice and don't have any expectation, that is super good. How can you achieve such a great playing? What is the secret of playing Liszt B-Minor sonata, without practicing....I wanna know. Or you mean, you don't practice or don't have expectations like others in your family who practice 8 hours a day to be a professional pianist, but you actually did practice 2-3 hours every day since 3 years old?

Are you playing on an electronic piano? (Can't tell) The sounds don't have enough depth of the grand piano, so in general, it is lacking the expansiveness. I printed out the score a year ago, but never worked on this piece, so I can't tell, but your dynamics seem to be according to how it is written? (I should listen with the score, but I need to go now) I don't know why you think others won't agree with your interpretation.

Well, most of us who post in this forum have professions different than pianist so I do not really get, why should it specifically matter what you do for a living  ::)
As it sounds and looks to me you have had a solid, systematic pianistic training since you were a young kid :)

You've clearly had good piano training as a child.

Hey guys

thanks for your comments. Maybe the expression of "expectations" that I wrote is too unclear. To be more concrete, yes, I don't practice like a professional pianist compared to my familiy where everybody is working hours daily on the piano. Sometimes there is a day where I can practice for like 2 hours, but if I would have to tell an average - maybe 5 hours per week is realistic. Also, I am working on this since last year september. So this is definitely quite normal,I guess. By the way, I was starting with piano at the age of 6 but stopped practicing at the age of 12. Once I got 17 I started to play again (which means I am playing for 2 years now). If youre good at math you probably know my age now :p Just kidding ;)

In terms of the "expectations", I just wanted to make a point, that I do not have the capabilities to understand the level of criticism which a professional pianist might point out. Sometimes I do evaluate with my sparringspartner what I can do better - but now it is very hard to me to understand the critics because I often get unclear instructions. These instructions are very irrational, e.g. I get told to use my whole body instead of my arms and head only (according to my partner this should increase the effectiveness of the  sound - not in a dynamical sense like forte and piano, instead in an emotional sense: "smoother" / "meaningful").

As amytsuda pointed out, maybe it is important to mention whether it is an electrical piano or not. No, it isn't. But the sound quality still differs from the realistic sound that it has. We have some weird acoustic in this room which make the sound really sharp and monotonic. Looking forward to record the whole interpretation with better environment :)

Thanks for your feedback, I didn't really want to put too much attention on that part. Being new here I thought this particular forum-category is mostly visited by professionals. But anyway, mentioning that was a bit unnecessarily i guess... :D

Oh, just ignore that part of my comment. I was just nitpicking, I guess. I always check the forum during my practice session breaks - probably I was just jealous ;D
