Chat for piano students
on: December 15, 2004, 12:45:24 AM
I would like to create a Java Chat for the piano students of the forum
For example now I'm really sad (for personal reasons) and I would like to distract myself by chatting with a friend piano student about theory, practice and reperotoire

Do you think this could be a good idea?
Do you think there could be problems in realizing this?

Any thought ?

Sounds good.

Though I'd rather just use IRC.

We have been having Friday nite chats on AIM (aol instant messenger).  However, the past couple of weeks they have been non-existent, and that is because most of the people have exams (college or high school).  But I hope that the chat starts back up soon.  Do you have AIM? If not,  go to www.aim.com.  I hope that you can come to one of our chats!  I have learned so much, and I have met some fantastic people!  How about if you send me your AIM screen name via private message here at the forum?  Then, I can add you to the list of people.  If you come to a chat, you can meet some of the others and ask them for their screen name (I never give out a person's screen name or e-mail) so then you will be able to talk to them anytime!

(PS--If we all ban together and sweet-talk Nils, maybe he would join us sometime!)

Is there an IRC channel for piano? What is it? Thanks.

Nothing beats IRC!  (From someone who has almost no experience with anything else  ;D .  If you really want to make a Java chat client, that's fine, but make it a client that actually logs into an IRC channel; then people will have the choice of MIRC or the Java client or whatever, and it will be easily and instantly accessible from the PianoForum pages; also, it is possible to create a link that wil instantly pop open MIRC and log it onto the proper IRC network and join the desired channel.

I suggest Undernet or Dalnet or something that allows you to register your nick and so forth.  But a piano chat room would be well worth trying.  #pianochat!

Yes, that was the idea
First I register a IRC group with an admin and all
Then I'll create a web page with a JAvirc applet that log automatically on the group I create
Then I'll redicrect the page to a web hosting with a shor name

So, by clicking on a very easy to remember url everyone can access the chat instantly

We have #pianoforte on IRCnet but there's only three of us who play the piano, besides random Italians who join the channel, then leave when nobody understands Italian (and they rarely speak English).

Remembering the great Maurizio Pollini

Legendary pianist Maurizio Pollini defined modern piano playing through a combination of virtuosity of the highest degree, a complete sense of musical purpose and commitment that works in complete control of the virtuosity.
