It's a great performance! It's a shame that so few people had been at your recital. I know how demanding is this piece both metally and musicaly - you managed it in every aspect in my opinion. Only thing I would change is your choice of tempo, for me sometimes it seemed rushed (for example this part which starts in 2:37).

Hi Furiouzpianist,

This is an outstanding performance with everything well articulated . . . it is sombre, rugged, powerful and deciso . . . yet also introspective and searching when necessary.

It is extremely well done, in my opinion!

Mvh,
Michael

Hi M. K.

Bravo! This is a marvelous performance of the "Chaconne". It demands all of the resources of the piano and you certainly delivered on that. Congratulations!

Years ago after Busoni composed the Chaconne, artists started playing it in recitals. Often disgruntled audience members and critics asked: Where J. S. Bach composed such a huge output of great keyboard music, why play a piano transcription?  Fortunately, where Busoni had produced this powerful and beautiful transcription, and because so many fine pianists continued to perform it despite the critics, eventually the music prevailed over the objections.  And today it's solidly part of the piano repertoire.

Thank you again for your wonderful rendition, and I wish you continued success in your DMA program.

David

Thank you very much for listening! I've played this piece since 2013, and each time it is different...
Actually, some section I find "unpianistic", they require a surprising amount of work to "keep in shape", and for me - don't fit in the hands easily...

here is an mp3 file from studio CD master I picked up today.

Thanks for the CD master.  It's easy to download and many will enjoy hearing it.

I know exactly what you mean about "unpianistic".  As for me, I've run into that problem with Brahms.  The reason is that in composing piano music he was sometimes thinking orchestrally.  Because of that, I've not recorded Brahms for a very long time now.

Oh yes, Brahms, even the chamber music, at least what I've played - the Eb-flat Clarinet (or viola) sonata and the C minor piano quartet, is so hard, and doesn't fit in the hands easily. It really requires lots of patient work.

I wanted to learn Brahms Paganini Variations book II, but I haven't, precisely for that reason. Wonderful music, though. I also love the piano sonatas... The Handel Variations, etc...
