Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges. Summers stretch and challenge piece(s)
on: June 05, 2015, 10:41:07 AM
Hi guys!

Me again, I'm in search of my annual summer stretch and challenge piece(s), I'm casting my eye around some repertoire, where liszt Hungarian rhapsody no.11 (I think) and one of the chopin scherzos possibly another Ravel piece or a Beethoven sonata have attracted my attention. However I'm open to suggestions, if you think the above are pushing it abit too far then just say as it's early days :)

My rep: Moonlight, Brahms intermezzo in A major, Rachmaninov prelude in g minor and b minor, scarlatti sonata in B minor ( forget what K no. It is ), Chopin ballade in A flat, Ravel sonatine and Fazil says Paginni jazz variations ( plus loads of jazz standards I have arranged)

Thanks again
P.s if you know how to do the signature thing on here  please tell me :)
Pieces I'm polishing at the mo:
Debussy reflections on the water (images)
Chopin ballade no.3 op.47
Liszt/Wagner Isolde liebestod

Hi the falla is quite nice, I've already heard of the Sibelius as well (another lesser known work of his). I'm perhaps looking for something slightly less of the beaten track at the moment (despite all the suggestions have been good). :)

Anyone think that one of the chopin scherzos would be alright as a long term project?  Or is any Liszt pieces possibility?

Is Ravels jeux D'aux a capable piece to play as the Sonatine didn't pose any difficulty at all in comparison to the ballade ( there are still bits I'm not happy with, but hey that's the wonder of chopin I suppose)?
