I cut my finger today:-(((
on: June 08, 2015, 09:55:55 PM
Today I cut my thumb. The knife went thru nail to underlying tissue. It is not bleeding any more but I can't practice :'(  I tried but it is just sore, weak, unreliable and a little painful.
Did some RH practice but it is not so much fun. Damn!!!!  :'( :'(

I would keep applying Neosporin to it to help it heal more quickly.

 :) Thank you.
I am using Aquaphor Healing Ointment because that is what I had at hand. Will buy Neosporin if you recommend it helps well. I hope I can play tomorrow maybe... I do not want to make it worse if I strain it by playing too early.
 :'(
I guess I have to put up with just watching others play on YT and browsing the forum for the time being.

See a doctor if you haven't already.  Make sure they know you are a pianist and you need your thumb to work.

Be patient and let it heal first before doing any playing.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Thank you for your kind advice. I think it is just a simple cut, no stitching necessary so a doctor will not help much I guess ::) And I do not like doctors ;)
It is just so frustrating. I always look forward to my practice sessions :'( :'( :'(

Look on the bright side; you'll be so glad that you can practice once it's healed, you'll be improving more and more!
And, you can take time to study piano away from the piano. Learn it's inner workings, it's history, all kinds of things :)
Plus, this kind of motivation of looking forward to your practice sessions is the trademark of a good pianist.

Hi Kawai_cs,

I am sorry to read about what happened - it sounds like it must have been painful in the moment!

I've sliced a little into fingers a few times, even though I always follow the "rules" on knives, and it always has healed adequately.

As long as you use the Neosporin or an equivalent, and there isn't an infection, I think it will turn out fine.  So don't worry about it!

Mvh,
Michael

Thank you Folks for your support and kind words! :) :) I really appreciate it!
Bought Neosporin and am hoping I could play tomorrow again...

That is a lovely piece of advice and it is so nice of you! I know my trademark is obsession. It has always been like that and I am afraid I am not completely.. hm.. normal in that respect ;D Which does not mean I am that great or something. It is just that it is intense and piano is a constant source of pleasure and frustration for me.
Michael, I also try to follow my "rules" when around sharp tools but sometimes things happen just so fast. We, pianists, must be really careful about our hands. I sometimes wonder how professional pianists tackle this danger. It must be a drama if one hurts themselves even a little when a competition, etc is ahead.

I've never used Neosporin is it that good . I remember last year we were just starting music class and the teacher asked me to staple some papers and I ended up staple my hand and it went far in  so painful
The piano a string instrument controlled by means of percussion.

Oh I know what you are talking about. I had a staple in my finger once, too.
Neosporin definitely takes down the infection - the cut site is no more red and swollen so it is worth having it at hand. However the cut is still open :'(

One of the great things about not being a professional pianist is that you can (and should) do other things, including using tools that might injure your hand. Anyway, you still have the other one, so here's where to go:

I feel you...a few years back I broke a ceramic plate and the slice in my index finger was HUGE...it was scary. You could see the tendons inside.

Couldn't play for a few months. Now it works fine, although it's noticeably weaker than the rest. I've contacted a physical therapist and he gave me exercises with which to strengthen it.
