Signiture pieces
on: June 13, 2015, 12:49:07 PM
I need 3 pieces that I could make my signature pieces I need
them for a competition
1. a one movement 10-15 piece displaying virtuosity
2. a short 2-5 minute piece that's light fingered and charming also virtuosoish
3. a slow piece that's sad around 6 minute
and I cant have an selections or movements from larger works   ;D
oh and all these pieces have to been made from 1820 to 1940

Hi Blackonwhite,

I've always thought of signature pieces as pieces that a pianist "owns" and can play better than anyone else due to a particular alliance of the pianist's style with the content and which is very difficult to rival.

For the first one, my personal pick (not shared by all) would be the Chopin f minor fantasie:

For the second one, I would use the Schubert Impromptu in E flat:

And for the last, I'd use the Chopin "Cello" etude, op 25/7, just off the top of my head:

There are certainly more varied choices, with a wider breadth of composers, but this is just my personal choice.

For the longer 10 to 15 minute piece I was thinking something harder than the Chopin Fantasie in f minor and for the second I don't want anything by Schubert but the third is great just suggestions thank you for the pieces

If you still want to do Chopin, you could do the 4th ballade.

For the second piece, instead, you could do Ravel's Jeux D'eau:

Since were bringing up impressionism I'm choosing Debussy's L'isle Jouyouse for the second piece
and I don't want two of the same composer for this list and since I am going to choose the cello etude Chopin is out just need that 10 to 15 minute virtuoso piece.

Better get those double notes going, in that case.
Beethoven-Alkan, concerto 3
Faure barcarolle 10
Mozart-Stradal, symphony 40
