How in a million years was this ever going to be "legal"?

I don't know the laws in each country in the world, but I know for sure that practically every piano teacher in the US( well, all of my teachers, anyways ::)) copy non-public domain music to give to students. It's not really "distributing", so I don't think it's illegal ;D

Neither do i, but i doubt if their are any Countries that do not offer protection to copyright owners who are still alive.

Copying non PD music to give to students is distributing, and therefore a violation of the copright.

Try Russia.  If you don't respect intellectual property rights, works go out of print, there's less incentive to write good music. That's a big problem in Russia.  Why not the US follow suit, if its music teachers can't be bothered to make stance?  The damage done will be a lot less; I can't really think of any works by living American composers that I'd like to learn to play.
Beethoven - Sonata in C sharp minor, Op 27 No 12
Chopin - Fantasie Impromptu, Nocturn in C sharp minor, Op post
Brahms - Op 118, Nos 2 & 3

until not too long ago we had Rochberg, given his only recent passing, fair to place in a 'modern' group.  Have read here and there he is regarded as the 'father of neo romanticism''.  This is lovely, reminds me of a modern spin on early Richard Strauss, or a 'nod to Brahms'' or so

his music is really appealing on a lot of levels, and many like like that groovy period from about 1885-1915 or so, might like his work

Details of availability of Hamelin's scores may be found at https://www.sorabji-archive.co.uk/hamelin/scores.php.

Some are available direct from The Sorabji Archive; almost all of those that are not are published elsewhere and their publication details are given in the list. Pavane Variée is not yet available as it is due to be published soon.

Please address any further enquiries to sorabji-archive@lineone.net.

And yes, copying/uploading/downloading copyright material and/or distributing it is indeed illegal other than with the express written consent of the copyright owner, although the copyright terms vary from country to country; many countries now adopt the 70-year term in which works enter the public domain at the beginning of the 71st year following the composer's death, but it would be so much less confusing all round were every country to adopt the same term.

Best,
