This is incredible, you may want to see this.
on: July 09, 2015, 04:19:52 AM
Hi everyone, I came across this video a few months ago, I've watched it at least a hundred times since. I just think it's as clear as could be. It may not even be in the mood of the "wisps" etude, but I think it's just amazing, it almost sounds like a midi file—with personality!  ;D Anyway, just thought I would share this with you.

This is the exact recording I used to listen to as a child. Back then I didn't know who was playing it, just that it was amazing!

I was just saying it sounds so clear and defined (midi files have a way of being clear and defined) but you can tell it's real because of well placed cresc. decresc. accel. and decel. throughout the piece. Sorry it's late... or shall I say early?  ;D

His double notes are one of the best without a doubt. His Chopin 25 6 is a personal favourtie, especially how he slightly brings the top note a bit more than the bottom note (RH only) consistently.
Currently Learning:
Liszt - Spanish Rhapsody
Brahms - Handel Variations and fugue
Beethoven - Appassionata sonata
Chopin - Etude op 10 no 2

I've played 25/6 and I think it's easier to bring out the top note in the double scales that it is to play them evenly...

It's more like everything put together (evenness, voicing clarity, tempo). Most people have trouble bringing all these elements together and have a tendency to compensate certain areas for others (slower tempo for better control, less balanced voicing for speed). In Ashkenazy's case for double thirds, he does none of these which is why it is such a high standard

I agree. I think that most people blow through this etude without realizing the beauty of it. I think Pollini doesn't do a bad job either...  :D

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
