Tharaud - Gershiwn :-0
on: July 16, 2015, 03:01:04 PM
:)this, it's his own right? He is reading from a score that does not look like mani in another live version of the same work  i saw (can post on request) , but perhaps he is basing his off another and adding his spin? Anyone know the version he performs here, ie who the transcriber is if it is not Tharaud?

*there's several great versions of this out there so i cannot keep them all straight at first listen, and his 'swing' section is cool

it sounds improvised in some sections to me... it's a cool arrangement whoever did it.  Don't think you would call that a transcription...  that's a standard, standard.. a tune every jazzer and cocktail pianist knows...it wouldn't be proper to play someone else's transcription...so I would say it's his. Especially if it's on his new record.

but IDK for sure.

A good portion of this guy's arrangement of "The Man I Love" is how Gershwin plays it. Tharaud takes the Gershwin arrangement and makes it his own. BTW I was listening to Gershwin play the man i love on youtube along with a bunch of other solo stuff. I think it was taken down, but here's someone else playing the arrangement
