VIDEO: My Prelude No. 1

About two years ago I posted a video recording of the Prelude No. 2 from my Nine Preludes for Piano Solo, which I composed in 1988.  Within the last year, my partner and I have retired and moved to Arizona, where I hope to make a number of additional recordings over the next few years.  It took us a few months to set up the new recording environment, but earlier this week I was finally able to record my Prelude No. 1 in D-Sharp Minor (from the same set as the earlier prelude I posted), which I think some of the Romantically-inclined pianists here may enjoy.

For those who prefer to follow the score, I also created this "score video" with the same soundtrack:

Thank you very much!  I still have a lot of unrecorded music, including piano solo as well as various other combinations (if I can find the co-performers), so I expect to be putting out many more of these.

Very profound and enjoyable! I greatly enjoyed the jazz idioms and chord structures towards the beginning, but also has that late romantic "Russian feel".

My dissertation was on Rachmaninoff, but when I wrote that prelude I think I was probably also somewhat under the influence of the well-known Scriabin etude in the same key.

I was going to say it reminded me of Scriabin!  It's beautiful.  I know it's YOUR music, but I couldn't help feeling it much faster.  Like in 2.  half note=90.  Really passionato, like you wrote.  And then the reprise a little slower.  It's silly of me telling you how I feel it!  But I do!  I'd love to learn it.

No, that's not silly at all.  A piece like this leaves a lot of room for the performer's interpretation, and I think it would be interesting to hear such a really quick, high-energy performance.  Conceivably, I might like it better than my own recorded version.
