Barroque keyboard music that isnīt Bach
on: August 03, 2015, 09:31:37 AM
I have been playing piano for some years, but I never played any work from the Barroque that isnīt Bach. I know that there isnīt much choice, even thought there are Scarlatti Sonatas, or even Carlos de Seixas toccatas(that is from my country Portugal).
The ideal choice would be Seixas, but, I have seen the sheets that there avaiable at IMSLP, and I havenīt found any that is more less the dificulty of the WTC.  https://imslp.org/wiki/12_Toccatas_for_Harpsichord_(Seixas,_Carlos)
https://imslp.org/wiki/45_Toccatas_for_Harpsichord_(Seixas,_Carlos)
If anyone could help me with this i would be glad, but if not, if you could sugest any other work from this period, that is as hard as a Prelude and Fugue from the WTC.
(It can be transcriptions form concertos, overtures, and things like that).

Even though you already know of him I think Scarlatti is great so maybe you should just go for him.

To add a few more names to check out:

Lully
Purcell
Kuhnau (I think that's how it's spelt)

I'm not a huge baroque fan but I wish you luck finding something you like.

Antonio Soler, late Baroque to early classical, but he sounds pretty Baroque to me.
