I'm a Zimmerman... I mean... A Zimmer fan :) But Elfman can be good.

I thought the scores he did in collaboration with director Christopher Nolan were pretty good, Zimmer I mean...

Wow, you are really hammering me with Schnittke! Why exactly?

Just happened to fit this thread. And the other one needed to be steered away from all the BS...not that it really worked  ;D

@ outin

Well, pencilart made indications he may move on, but he's done that before...

I didn't mind the Schnittke you just posted. But he just doesn't really do it for me, I can sort of respect he is probably a clever composer but he doesn't emotionally connect to me.... Can I recommend you something? To put you through the same thing you put me through I'd have to know what you don't like though ;)

Sure, you can try... I'm probably even worse than you, if I don't like something, there's no way of changing my mind  ;D

Hmmm....... I know... There's this real young go-getter, who should be an inspiration to all the pianio-playing world, a true visionary and genius who is also unbelievably humble. Their only problem is a lack of self-promotion, which I intend to rectify now.

And if you don't like it, it reflects very poorly on you outin and I will be seriously disappointed...

Ouch. Don't you respect their decision to start from the bottom and work my way up? I think their humility is just so overwhelming it makes me want to cry!

5 easy pieces with Jack Nicholson is a good music film. One of few… I like Amadeus too. And Disney of course. And musicals.

Okay seriously now, sorry about that, I thought it was funny :P

Anyway I actually have fingered all the 3PIs and I thought this one was fascinating, I'm looking forward to playing it quite a bit.

Of course it was, but I just don't care for Bach. Which makes me an odd one on this place. You'll fit in nicely.

There was a time I didn't care for him much either... I suppose you have to love his ideas within traditional tonality... What are your favourite traditional, tonal pieces or composers anyway?

Baroque: Scarlatti
Classical: Hate almost everyhing...I do like some Hummel though
Romantic: Franck, Chopin, Medtner
List of my favorite pieces would be long...there's so much wonderful music around.

Hahaha, I'm composing a classical sonatatina at the moment! Probably too boring for you ;)

I think I recall you mentioning Scarlatti before... How on earth are you going to do everything!?

I'd better do it on earth or let Pencilart convert me   ;)

Some of them I'd probably just read through once.
I admit I have a long way to go, I have worked on about 20 so far. There are probably about 40 that I'd really like to get to a really polished state and fully memorized. Then again there might be some gems I haven't heard yet...

Classical era music is definitely not for me. In fact it's the main reason why I avoided all classical so many years. Even as a child I hated Mozart and Beethoven and that was what was most mostly offered. I used to find Bach interesting as a kid, but somehow I just grew out of it.

You are bizarre to me outin, but I enjoy talking with you. Anyway, shall we talk about the thread topic rather than confusing everyone who isn't in on this thing we have going?

And I'll promise to listen to your sonatina when it's finished. If I had any ambitions for composing, then I'd certainly study Bach so keep at it.

I'm not sure what you mean? Cinematography or visual effects?

Thanks very much outin, you don't have to but I would appreciate it nonetheless.

More cinematography perhaps but let us say it can be anything visual, we've talked a lot about the audio aspect of movies, I figure we should touch on the other half.

One movie I can think of off the top of my head is American Beauty. So well shot and directed, lots of little touches that reinforce its themes. It had imagery from the banal to the surreal to the Dadaist.

I cannot name single favorites, since there are so many ways to create wonderful or interesting imagenary. American Beauty was great. But so is something like this in a totally different way:

An example of a film where nothing happens but you just cannot stop watching :)

But one thing I really hate is CGI. It's still too unnatural for me. I'd rather see something like this in an otherwise good film:

Not that this was a good film though  ;D

I liked this one for visuals.... at the time the effects were breathtaking...and it still kinda holds it own

World War Z

SPOILER ALERT!!!
...or Brad Pitt saves the world.   I kept trying to enjoy it but I couldn't see much through his great big ego...

good thing he got to Jerusalem in time to tell all those people to be quiet before the zombies heard them... man--like 5 minutes sooner...huh...  good thing he cut off the girls  arm before he got on the jet with the closet zombie...miraculously  just the two of them made it... how convenient.. then he has to go through one more zombie maze where you have to be quiet...lol...come on really???   you think they would mark the really deadly stuff in the bottles a little better huh?  you go Brad.  Then go live in Nova Scotia with your family...and relax. lol.

I've seen bits of Plan 9 but wouldn't subject myself to the full experience. My stupid stupid human mind can't comprehend...

War Z looked so dumb and uninteresting, I'm glad you at least got a laugh out of it DC.

I don't drink... Weird for an Aussie, I know, but I'm part American. Not that Americans are known for NOT drinking. Oh and I made my fingering thread, I'd appreciate it if you checked it out and let me know what you think :)

New Zealand is drowning in a sea of booze. The alcohol industry has successfully promulgated the illusion that it is a harmless, even beneficial adjunct to daily life, rather than the poisonous drug it in fact is. Successive effete governments have embraced and promoted alcohol, as they have gambling and prostitution, because these things fit the odious economic ethos of the last thirty years. A local psychologist, Nigel Latta, has made an excellent DVD documentary about it - well worth seeing.
