New Zealand is drowning in a sea of booze. The alcohol industry has successfully promulgated the illusion that it is a harmless, even beneficial adjunct to daily life, rather than the poisonous drug it in fact is. Successive effete governments have embraced and promoted alcohol, as they have gambling and prostitution, because these things fit the odious economic ethos of the last thirty years. A local psychologist, Nigel Latta, has made an excellent DVD documentary about it - well worth seeing.
