Nearly 6 months in

Just thought I'd pop in here and give a bit of an update, I started playing my keyboard back in mid February after a shoulder injury left me unable to play my guitars or banjo's.

I started off trying to teach myself, I figured out the basics of learning music and started to learn 'Somebody To Love' by Queen, I was pretty impressed with it at the time but shortly after that i started getting lessons.

My teacher was pretty impressed by how well I was playing after just a few weeks of serious practice and she got me started on a few pieces (mainly to guage what sort off level I was at) I fell in love with Moonlight Sonata and dedicated most of my time to playing that, unfortunately there were a few problems with that piece, my keyboard only had 66 keys which meant I couldn't play all of the notes and the piece was too advanced for me and I ended up getting extremely frustrated with it, my teacher then recomended I Giorni by Ludovico Einaudi and from then along with practicing my scales and arpegios that was what the majority of my time was spent practicing.

Last month I moved bought myself a Yamaha P-45 digital piano, and the difference is really really amazing, I've just listened to a few recordings I made back in May and how far I've progressed has really surprised me.

Last week I went back to Moonlight Sonata for the first time in about 2 months and I'm pretty much having to re-learn it but I'm finding it so much easier this time around and have picked up on loads of mistakes I was making before, I've pretty much got all of I Giorni sorted now (a few scratchy bits but I'm more than happy with it)

I remember when I first started learning and I wasn't convinced by how much a teacher would help me out (after all I learnt the guitar and banjo on my own why would I need help for the piano) I'm so pleased that I got a teacher and after only approx 11 or 12 lessons I'm over the moon with how I'm getting on.

I'm not sure if anyone will be interested in this but I thought I'd share anyway.

P.S. I also can't stress enough how much of a difference it has made by upgrading from my keyboard onto a digital piano

Good stuff, I'm always glad to hear of new people starting to take up the instrument.

Shame about the shoulder, what happened to it exactly?

Oh, and do you have any recordings uploaded? I'd like to see how far you've come ;)

I done my shoulder in whilst getting off a bus lol, I was holding onto the rail and the driver slammed his breaks on, just a soft tissue injury but its been 10 months now and I still struggle to play for more than 20/30 minutes without it seriously hurting the following day.

I don't have any recordings on my computer they are on my phone unfortunately.

Well, Perhaps you can look into a recording set up but it should be easy, with an electronic instrument, to run it through the computer I think. Posting your music gives us all an opportunity to help and advise you... and see if you're any good ;)

That sounds awesome! It's amazing how sometimes you can work on a piece and it's a big struggle, only to leave it and return to it months later and suddenly it's very 'doable'. That happens to me all the time! :) Also high five on the keyboard upgrade!
