Used Tokai?

I have an opportunity to purchase a beautiful black upright Tokai piano from a relative who bought it new.  Asking price is $1000.  It sounds nice to my novice ear .  Anyone know about this brand?  Are they well made?  Nice sound?  Fair price?  thanks
