Where to buy keyboards
on: December 18, 2004, 11:30:49 PM
I have no doubt that this has probably already been addressed, so I apologize. It's pretty self-explanatory. I'm looking for a good website from which to buy good quality keyboards. Unfortunately, my price range is just a few hundred dollars. The aim is for a keyboard to put in my bedroom so that I can compose without driving my family crazy.  :)

I shopped around for months before purchasing my keyboard.  I originally only wanted to spend a couple hundred dollars, but after thinking about it, I felt I would always be limited if I didn't have an 88-key keyboard.  I got the Yamaha DGX 500 from Andy's Music Online <www.andysmusiconline.com>.  They have a nice selection and the best prices I could fine.  Shipping in the US is FREE and it arrived in one week.  Some sites I found, where the keyboard itself was actually cheaper, had shipping fees that were 20% of the price of the item!  Keep in mind that we're talking about keyboards, not digital pianos.  Digital pianos are much more expensive, but do have a better sound and touch.  Even weighted keys on a keyboard cannot be compared to the touch of a real piano.  But, it seems that your intentions for a keyboard are for composing only, not for practicing, so I wouldn't be too worried.  For practicing and performing there really is no substitute for a real piano.
