VIDEO: Bach, BWV 940
on: August 07, 2015, 08:19:10 PM
Well, after the positive but... singular response to my Scriabin I've decided to post some Bach... Perhaps you will all be more interested?
Anyway, it's a somewhat unconventional approach, but don't knock it till you've heard it!

A perfect approach to this piece. I liked your sense of rubato, and the tempo.. Very nicely done! (i could almost hear voices singing from your playing, which i think is key. It seems to me, much of Bach's approach to the keyboard is 'vocal'. This one has 2 voices, so it is a bit easier to bring this quality out, but the same approach is needed for the 3 or more 'voiced' pieces.. Bach is part of my daily diet for years). I really enjoyed it!

Wow, thanks heaps theme! I'm glad you appreciate how I did it, I was expecting there to be at least some criticism of my slight liberties but I knew I had something that would work for some people at least.
Your "singing voices" comment in particular I find interesting, I may try and focus on that more in future recordings.
There are plenty more Little Preludes on my channel but this is, in my opinion, the best so far but considering how many I play there are many more to come, some with much more potential than this even.
However, whatever it is, my recordings don't turn out quite like they seemed when I heard them as I was performing... they seem a little more muted and less expressive than what I intend... Perhaps it's my mediocre piano or my recording device... Maybe I could do with more volume...
I also want to add, for anyone else reading, I may complain that my previous response was "singular" I now realise that was silly, as the reaction to my Scriabin was from birba, so I don't need anyone else
