Etude op. 10 no. 5 (First half! LOL)
on: August 12, 2015, 05:30:28 AM
So, this was a fail. I tried to make a "studio recording" (recording half one time, then half another time and putting them together). What a fail! I never got around to making the second half, and now I can hardly remember it. BUT, this is for you, kawai_cs! LOL! Sorry for the dark camera. Also the sound and the video are a little off... what a fail! ;D Well, what do you think of this first half? Should I even bother making the second half?

I opened the forum and what a nice surprise! You brought a big smile to my face, Noah :)
The recording sounded so clear and so was your execution. Good job!
There were moments I absolutely loved (e.g. very nice dynamics), and some that sounded still a little too much like a "student" playing - do not know how to express it, e.g. the very beginning sounded like this. Definitely you are doing great and record the second part too. Thank you for posting!

You know Noah, you're a bit more capable than I thought, technically at least.

It could stand to be a little faster to really give it the right dash and exuberance, but you're close and it shows a fairly good technique.

Here are the best moments, I think: 0:20 and the build up starting at 0:29 you showed some flair there.

The problems are subtle but important to solve with Chopin like this. I would say you need to find some more subtle shadings of dynamics and a more natural flow of tempo. You're a tad metronomic and one of your ritenutos wasn't entirely convincing either. I think you need to look at this piece closely and start experimenting and asking yourself where you can find creative little nuances.

But really you did a fine job, this is better than your preludes.

Thanks, both of you! I will consider recording the rest of the piece, man I'm never doing a stupid "studio recording" again!!  :D  ;D

ohhhh Noah... wow... that was just beautiful...really   ;D

I love the black key etude--I remember listening to it when I was young and thinking it was impossible to play...  the key signature alone looked so scary...lol.

your technique is coming along nicely and I am looking forward to hearing more from you.

all around nice looking vid, too.

don't let that one slip away into forgotten music oblivion...  that's a keeper...  own it!

How fortunate you are to have such a fine instrument to play!!   and you are still so young..  you will be going to music school?  I hope... yes?  ;D

here's the song...  "the future's so bright--I gotta wear shades"   an old '80s tune that you may enjoy...

it's a great tune.  Had to give credit to the source... that's one of the greatest lines in all of rock n roll...from Timbuk 3..  one hit wonders.
