Hi Friends,
This is  my latest composition.. Even after finishing the writing, it still took me a week to play it.
(It will still need to sink into my bones a bit more, but i believe the impression is quite strong.)
It navigates to the distant key of B minor at around the middle, where the theme is inverted in the soprano  while playing with the theme Uninverted in the bass..
There are perhaps 4 'stretto' passages, the most obvious one being at the end.
This piece was quite challenging to write, with many drafts…
I am very interested to get feedback..
All comments are very much appreciated, and if anyone has any helpful criticism, i am all ears..
Thank you for listening.

I really lack the knowledge and ears to make an informed judgement...

But that said this is my favourite piece by you yet  ;D And I don't really have any criticism.

A wonderful mixture of baroque with modern touches and pianistic approaches. Really good. I would love to hear more work in this vein, if you so wish theme. Good luck and keep em coming :)

And an awesome ending too ;D

I am glad you liked it.. ;D

Your description was something i was focusing on while writing - those qualities in particular.
(You totally read what i was going for).
I may write a prelude to go with it, but, i would write a few others (or more) before attempting another fugue.. and so tricky to play - (with emotion and mind) . I will attempt another recording in a week, after it has settled more - and perhaps with a little less rubato  :o
Thank you so much for listening Josh.

Nice sequencing... cool. ;D lots and lots of Bach-ness...

I also enjoyed the overall presentation very much--might I suggest using the picardy third in the final cadence? IMO it would really add to the Baroque-ness of it...lol.

just a thought...it sounds great just the way it is..   ;D

I love the original compositions we get here at PS...it is by far my favorite thing about this forum...hearing music being performed by the composer--there is just nothing like it.  8)

We should have an original composition.. competition or showcase of some kind... so many of us here play our own music.

or--and I like this idea better... we write something and then have another member play it--see how we interpret another's original compositions.  that would be kinda cool  ( I am calling "dibs" on ajlongs--prelude in A minor right now...)

or---pick one original composition and we all play it and post our interpretations.

or-- we could compose a theme and variations using a member's original work...

or--arrange another member's original composition in a different style

I really think something like that would bring these beautiful works to many more members here...  it might inspire them to try and play some of these pieces---maybe it would even encourage a few of them to try composing...

plus is would be lots of fun  ;D

what do you think?  8)

I am glad you enjoyed it dc!  ;D
Curious, the Picardy 3rd-- switching to the major as the last chord.. I do like that idea in some situations… Not sure about with this one though.. But I do appreciate you thinking about the compositional structure.. With the last beat i was at first going to fill in the (Cminor) chord, but i realized that the minor sound was already  implied, so i chose something more severe - all lines ending on the note c. I was also attracted to the simplicity of a single tone end..

I like your idea of a showcase.. (not really attracted to the idea of a competition).. I'll respond more on the thread you started with this subject.

Thanks so much for listening dc. ;D

I am leaning way more towards showcase, too.

and to be honest-- I just wanted to type "Picardy third"....you know,  too show you my vast knowledge of Baroque terminology.  I thought maybe it would impress you...lol besides how often in life is one offered the opportunity to make such a suggestion?...  really..lol. After all those theory classes  I couldn't resist. ;D

 8)  .... yeah   what can I say...  I just seem to have that affect on folks.  lol.

now there's a bunch of people out there who are aware of this mysterious Picardy third thing... and we defined it for them and filled that gaping hole in their musical vocabulary.

aren't we just the bees knees  ;D
