I usually go for a full piano angle, that shows the hands and the keys. Like so:



This also depends on what sort of piano you have. I think the amateur places the camera at one enfd of the piano either next to the low 'A' key or the top 'C' key. Avoid that - looks poor and the vibrations from the piano will cause blur in the footage.

Although, this may soon be my old setup. Planning to get 3 iPod Touches, use them as cameras and start using multi-angles for my videos. Make them look semi-professional.
