Too borad a question to really dial in an answer given how much parlor music there is out tbere but will throw a few ideas out

Something simply being marked "slow" or some variation thereof doesn't make it suitable salon music  ::)

Try playing the B minor scherzo as "salon music"- you'll get some interesting results.
