There's more, but these are all of Chopin's 1846-> pieces that I know.
I made an account and hadn't used it in a year. Welcome back, kevon.

Op 60 and beyond is the literal tail end of his output, even his late stuff. If you want late, I'd start the qualifications around Op. 52 (F minor ballade).

Barcarolle all the way man!! It's one of my favorite of his pieces, perhaps after Ballade in g minor, Nocturne 17 in B, and his third piano sonata. Oh and yes the concerti. I like those. And prelude 16! And how could I forget to mention the etudes! AHH winterwind is awesome! I also like ballade 4. And the trois nouvelles etudes are GREAT! Especially the 1st and 2nd. They are some of my favorite pieces. Oh how could I forget his first polonaise as well as the military one. And oh yes his third nocturne is great also. Oh yes and I also like all the pieces that are op. 1 through op. posthumous!!!

Oops sorry for that chopin rant. When you get the ball rollin, it's hard to stop...  ;D

If anyone picks either Bouree I will shoot them.

I couldn't agree more, but I still feel bad of having just one choice, since the cello sonata is as much a favorite of mine.

The third sonata is god. I mean, Chopin was probably on 1840s steroids when he was composing the piece. I mean, the difficulties of the first movement! Speed of the second and fourth! And even the largo is difficult! His TNE are very underrated and are very worth listening to. His short Largo in Eb Major is also worth listening to.

YES!!!! The fourth movement, played by Pollini or Blechacz is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! One of, if not my favorite, piece ever!

i disagree with the notion that op.60+ is his late period.

What I would call the beginning of his late period is when his musical language begins to sound forward thinking, to the point that it predicts the music of Ravel, Scriabin, Debussy etc. His harmonic language becomes far more chromatic and just downright brilliantly creative/innovative, and his melodic style becomes much less "formulaic" than his earlier works. I think you can begin to see this around his op. 44. I mean, everything about this piece is just down right bold, original, and creative. The middle section of the op. 44, couples with works like his op 45 prelude, op.50 no. 3...you can begin to hear the works early/middle period Scriabin.

I'm currently working on hos op. 50 no.3, and structurally (especially this), and harmonically it way more crazy than any of his other mazurkas. The 'improvisational' style that Chopin's known for becomes much more apparent in these works...

for me, Op. 44+ is his late period. Now to give you my favorite piece? Sorry, I can't decide. I can give you the ones I like the least:

Op. 50 no.1
Op. 49
Every single one of his posthumously published works, EXCEPT for the mazurka op. 68 no. 4 (i think it was his last composition)

For me his miniatures (op. 55, op. 50 no. 3, op. 45) are just as valuable as say his 3rd/4th ballades, and his barcarolle.

how this incredible work is not on the list is shocking. by far my favorite work of Fred. But beyond that it is one of his final.
Op. 65. [1846ish] If/when I do listen to Chopin voluntarily it is this , or on the other end, the early op 8

I didn't really say Op.60+. I just picked all of the pieces Chopin composed 1846 and after. That's why only two of the Op.67 and Op.68 were there and Op.64 No.3 isn't, for it's composed in 1840. (Honestly, I didn't even know there the 3 waltzes in the Op.64 set until like 2 weeks ago.) If I take it your way, my fav will be:

-Tarantella Op.43
-Polonaise Op.44
-Prelude Op.45
-Allergo de Concert Op.46
-Mazurka Op.50 No.2
-Ballade Op.52
-Polonaise Op.53
-Scherzo Op.54
-Nocturne Op.55 No.2
-Mazurka Op.56 No.3
-Sonata Op.58
-Barcarolle Op.60
-Polonaise-Fantasie Op.61
-Nocturne Op.62 No.2
-Mazurka Op.63 No.1
-Cello Sonata Op.65
