How regular should one tune the piano?
on: August 26, 2015, 09:24:31 AM
Recently, I bought a used Kawai Piano, I wanted to ask how regular should I tune the piano?

I also wanted to know if moving the piano using its dollies will affect the tuning?

Congrats on the new piano !  Yes, moving a piano means it will need tuning, not because it was moved but because it is in a new environment.  Generally, wait a couple of weeks and then tune.  You may find it will need re-tuning after that at a relatively short interval so the strings start to retain memory of the needed level.  This is an adjustment period to a new environment.

Most technicians will recommend tuning every six months after this stabilization period.  Less infrequent creates issues of instability in the strings.

Recently, I bought a used Kawai Piano,

Awesome choice! My family bought a used baby grand kawai for 4K 10 years ago, it sounds GREAT now, you can see my recordings, I'm playing on that piano.
You might have seen one of my videos without knowing it was that nut from the forum
