oh wow i'm so sorry for your loss. i sort of know how you feel, except thhrough different situations, and it hurts like hell, just the concept of never seeing them again and especially if they're young (my older sister died when she was 9 and my cousin when she was 11, and it's just the what type of people wouldthey have grown up to be, and it's hard when i feel like i really need the support of an older sister). but it will get easier in the future, you'll always miss them, but i believe that they're always watching over you and will be there in spirit when you need them.
in terms of not being able to practice, i find practicing piano a really good way just to vent my really strong emotions when i need to, so see it as an emotional release, even if you end up bawling your eyes out in the middle of a piece, but it does help, especially if you can associate something you're playing with your friend, and then play it like a tribute to them, and she'll always be in your heart

I am so sorry you lost your friend. My sympathy goes to you and to her family.

Don't worry about not being able to practice right now. You may just need some time to grieve. Give yourself a break. When you're ready, you'll know.

I lost my mother to Alzheimer's this summer. I was devastated. I couldn't even think about the piano. A couple days after the funeral, I sat down and played one of her favorite pieces. Then I played another and then another... and then I found myself working on scales and arpeggios and then working on the new piece my teacher had assigned me. I ended up finding great solace in practicing.

What a nice bunch you are,  to post heartfelt wishes to someone who on his second post tells the whole forum of his own personal tragedy.  Truly, I like this group for that compassion.

Etude, if you are for real, my heart weeps for you.  If you aren't, well, never mind . .

perhaps you shouldnt be worrying about practicing.  If your minds just not in it you wont get anything done.  I feel bad for you, but just keep believing any feeling you are feeling is only temporary and it wont be long before you feel like practising again.

Etudes,

My deepest condolences to you.  :'( Losing a loved one is hard, but it must be harder when it happens during the holidays. A couple friends of mine lost loved ones recently. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this tough time. Be sure to take care of yourself.
