Prelude in A Major - AJ Long
on: August 27, 2015, 11:30:06 PM

Hey guys. Here's a new piece I wrote fairly recently. This one has a very personal story behind it that I hope you guys won't mind me sharing. I was on Facebook and saw a photo of my friend having dinner with his family one more time before he went off for college and it hit me like a bus. I'm 17 and will be going to college next year most likely. I'm in the time of my life where I realize I'm not a child anymore and I will never be one again. Immediately after seeing the photo I started writing this and finished it a day after. To me this piece reflects someone who does not have their childhood innocence or youthful bliss any longer. However, they try so hard to not ponder on that sad fact. Looking back on old memories of fun and play, they smile for a second, but soon realize that the happiness they love so much, cannot be obtained. I hope you guys enjoy the piece and the story behind it.

- AJ

Wonderful! Love the subtle variations that continue throughout the prelude.   I would have assumed the general theme even without the heartfelt history.  :)

Yeah, that would be fun! Unfortunately, I don't think I can Skype with people my mom and dad don't know personally (DUMB HOUSE RULES) but thanks for asking!!

By the way, my brother just moved to Denver last week, it was pretty much just like the scenario you mentioned. I can relate to the piece!!

Every time you post a new composition I have a new favorite  :).  There are some very beautiful harmonies in this one.  Great job.

Very nice, AJ!  I particularly like the part where the rhythm gets more interesting as you work in the quarter-note quadruplets.
