Favorite Beethoven piano concerto
on: August 28, 2015, 03:48:32 AM
After listening to all of them multiple times over the course of a month I like (LOVE) no. 1 the most; somewhere in my top 3 of all time for sure. My least favorite are 3 and 5.
I have a strange relationship with Beethoven's music, where half of his music is pure bliss, and half is like banging my head against a wall to some degree. I don't like when he pushes the music extra forte and repeats ad nauseum to make a point, or when he decides to go into one of his excessive dark places (for some reason it sounds forced) I can't explain it but the 3rd concerto was boring and somewhat insignificant to me and the 5th gave me a headache. I love the imitative polyphony and counterpoint in the 1st one, and how Mozartian it is.
I can certainly find some enjoyment in certain places in all the concerto's, but overall 3 and 5 didn't impress me much. I wish I could explain why more effectively, especially since 5 is regarded as the best (I hear some Handel influence in 5 personally)
