digital piano - pedal stopped to work
on: August 29, 2015, 05:08:19 AM
Hi Guys,

is there anything I can check/do myself to fix the right pedal in a digital piano? It just stopped working after the piano has been transported to a different house.
I am using this piano only once a year for several weeks when on vacation so I am wondering if I can save some $ and if it is just a small fix I can do myself.

A. is it plugged in all the way
B. Try unscrewing it and seeing if it has any snapped or cut wires
C. Try taking it too a Yamaha store I think they take digital piano repairs and if they are nice its for free
D. buy a new one if you can its only like 10$

Thanks a lot evryali, I will try to A and B first.
Just not sure, how to get to that pedal? Is it possible to take the housing out to check A) and B)? Or do I have to put the piano on a side to be able to look at the pedal? ::)

The one that has the pedal not working is Kawai CA5.

The fix itself might be a bad potentiometer, or simply a loose wire that needs to be plugged in. However you might have to take many steps to get to the pedal circuits to find out.  You may have to disconnect the keyboard circuit to get to the pedal circuit, I dont know how that model is put together. If you do not have electronic savvy you may end up with a completely un-functional piano when you put it back together. Lots of screws, lots and lots of screws.

Have you proved it's the pedal? Find another piano to plug it in and try.
