Extract from Massenet's Thais
on: September 04, 2015, 09:23:03 PM
As paraphrased by Saint-Saens.

There are really two sections, and this is the famous melody, which I am happier with my handling of. I played the whole thing in a masterclass session and was gently castigated for my numerous failings. ;D

I won't post the first section until I've done more work on it - it certainly improved over the session(s) but at this point I've had to conclude it is a work in progress.

Any rate, here is the aforementioned "famous melody"; it's from a public recital which concluded the masterclass. It's not perfect but it was my first time in public with it and wanted to try things out for future consideration, rather than play safe and a bit dull.

Hope you like it - comments welcome.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I think this arrangement of the melody is very effective, if possibly slightly syrupy.

Thanks. I was aiming for maximum emotional impact in this performance; it could be a little more accurate but at the time I felt it was more important to focus on what I could put across to an audience. On another day I might have been more circumspect.
