Need advice on if piece is suitable
on: September 09, 2015, 08:51:48 PM
Hello,

I have been considering the following piece for my ARCT.

https://www.musiccentre.ca/node/12009

The music and sheets are attached.

I would like to know
-if this piece can be learned on an upright?
-is "ped. II" the sostenuto pedal?
-is "on string" mean a glissando on the actual strings akin to a harp?

Kind regards,

Benjamin Wu

I'm sure you can learn the notes on an upright. (much of the work will be rather tedious counting of ledger lines)

-is "ped. II" the sostenuto pedal?

The notes at the end of the score are very clear; yes, he says the piano must have an operating sostenuto pedal (for which terminology is exceedingly variable).

-is "on string" mean a glissando on the actual strings akin to a harp?
Yes, he also says you have to be able to reach the strings, so no, you will not be able to *perform* this on an upright.
