You might want to look at the excellent thread of Oct 15 2005 'Grades for all Chopin's works on this forum  :)

It's amusing how the Grande Polonaise Op. 22 is listed as easier than some Preludes. Also, the Op. 53 is easy to press the notes, but not as hard to not make it sound like crap (unless u have a very good sense of music). Same for the Ballade #3.  I think the only Ballade without more extreme technical challenges than the preludes is the Ballade #2.

And seriously, I don't really know the technical challenges of the Prelude #1. But you listed it as 8.

Prelude 1 IS NOT comparable to Scherzo 2, I'm sorry to tell you. Heck it's not even in the same vicinity. Or like the same ball park. Or on the same planet. Or even like the same universe. In fact, it's almost as far from Scherzo 2 as Kyle is from Emily. (catch that one? ;D)
