1920's Music/Poetry
on: September 19, 2015, 01:11:35 AM
Hi everyone, I have to write a research paper about jazz and poetry in the 1920's. My paper is about the cultural influence like jazz/poetry and racism. Jazz/poetry and early Civil Rights movement. Or jazz/poetry and the general affect on society and culture in the 1920's.
If anyone knows about literary/musical analysis in books, online, just something kinda scholarly that would be extremely helpful. Post links.
Any questions about what I'm looking for please ask.
THANKS

You can read Pops: A Life of Louis Armstrong by Terry Teachout and Jazz
by Gary Giddins. After reading them you'll definitely think of something great  :D
Good luck

Scholarly and informative...

Tulane University Jazz Archives...  https://jazz.tulane.edu/

this is a huge resource...  :)  good luck with your paper.

I have been studying Jelly Roll Morton among others for an upcoming performance...  he may be just the guy you are looking for.

you should find a wealth of info is you start looking at the Harlem Renaissance

https://www.pbs.org/wnet/jimcrow/stories_events_harlem.html

You might also look for anything that might be written in the basic music/arts journals, ie search in JSTOR, but also look at the sociology resources as well.

Again there is expected you'll actually have an overabundance of info avail on the matter so it will be better to first get a broad idea by info gathering then form your premise/focus and use that to filter through it all to find the relevant and cite-able information you need to support you views and discussion

One of my banjos was born in the 1920's and is still playing wonderfully.
