help finding editions for research
on: September 22, 2015, 06:51:40 PM
Hi all,

I just started my master education, in a school in Europe!

As my master research, I want to dig into the world of editions - of Beethoven's piano sonatas to be precise.

I have copy of Czerny, Liszt, von Bülow and Schnabel and the first edition... then I'll try to get to Bonn, to get a copy of some manuscripts.

I would love to find an actual book of the Czerny edition and the Liszt (I know there's a Japanese edition of the Liszt... but my Japanese is.. well... I don't speak Japanese..), and I would also really like if someone knows where I can find the first Goldenweiser edition (the one that, apparently, was heavily criticized)

Big thank you in advance!

I've sent you a PM.

You probably should have a copy of the Edwin Fischer edition and the Tovey "A Companion to Beethoven's Piano Sonatas, a Bar to Bar Analysis". PM me if you need them.

Wild thought.  Why not to make appointment / telephone conference with editors of reliable publishers.  They may be willing to help students.

what editions do you have that include the Bonn sonatas? I have one really solid edition of the three with good discussion and explanations, but don't know if there are multiple iterations of these.

I suggest the Arrau edition as well.

So far, I have von Bulow, Czerny, one of the Liszt (the boring one), Schnabel, Henle, Tovey and the first volume of the Goldenweiser...

Thanks for all help so far! I'm on a train atm, and can't really reply to everyone now... I will do later!
