London Fantasia by Clive Richardson
on: October 20, 2015, 01:28:45 AM
Has anyone played, or seen the piano adaptation, for Clive Richardson's "London Fantasia"?  I am thinking about purchasing it, and can't find a copy to preview.

If you haven't heard it-- below is one piano adaptation-- not sure if this is faithful to the printed score or not ... anyone know?

I have both versions as its a specialty subcategory of concertos in my hard copy archives.  Wonderfull piece of music that capitalized on the popularity of the Warsaw concerto.  Like its light mus8c and war time music siblings (bath-cornish rhapsody, arlen-alamein concerto twn muat listen if you dont know this one, addinsel- warsaw concerto, sweedish rhapsody, spellbound concerto, autumn concerto, etc) the piano scores were published as both full on transcriptions and "theme from" versions
Helen does a nice job there and is faithful to score but to o e version,  she only plays the short version in the recording.

The full fantasia which i read through recently is more effective, especially w the bomb sirens in the middle section immating the city bombings.  I have an extra copy of that one and somone had marked a skip through most of the middle although it is some of the cooler music in the score it simply wasnt all that popular, folks just wanted the theme. It's worth purchasing (i bought it twice to have an extra without previous owner's markings ).  The others in the genre stay somewhat hidden But are also worth listening to and reading and performing.

I actually picked ip one of my scores just yeaterday of the dawn rhapsody to ben working through as mid 2016 end project. That o ne is cool too but is only available as a full solo, no theme from version of it was publushed to my knowowled

When you buy be sure which version you are buying if you want a particular one .

Let me know if you need more info on it, its a paricular special interest category of mine and my extenssive collection is always growing and i always make room for more of these types (sort of like desert, the tunes are a bit sweet aka smaltzy, but thats ok, i like smaltz)

**correction to the above statement, I said "dawn rhapsody", my mistake, looked at my score, it is called "dawn fantasy", lovely little work that translated well to solo piano , a score I was fortunate enough to pick up about a year ago via an antiques book and scores dealer. Worth a listen to folks that like the genre

*super smaltzy. I love it  :D

I sent you a PM as I doubt that anyone else is interested... but I also want to play "Dawn Fantasy".  I assume by Clive Richardson, as well?  A Google search did not turn up anything.... more information on the solo piano would be much appreciated.

Ah, so much to learn and so little time...  :)

per video, composed by Peter Yorke. Score is rare and out of print. I know of one copy currently available for sale in EU. I'll send you the link (since I already bought one previously, it's from the same antique music dealer I used before, top notch service, prices are fair )
